KirkLee Custom Carbon Bicycle
At KirkLee we strive to produce a custom carbon bike like no other. Developed from the ground up, we have analyzed the purpose of each section of the custom carbon frame to give the quickest and most responsive ride while still comfortable after hours in the saddle.
Head Tubes
Starting with the head tube, we give the customer the choice of a standard 1 1/8” headset or the 44mm press fit Zero Stack standard. Either option gives the headset a solid direct press fit into carbon. Options include your choice of Chris King or Cane Creek 110 headsets.
Down Tubes
KirkLee’s oversized down tubes are designed to be light weight and provide exceptional stiffness in the bottom bracket area and unparalleled steering responsiveness. The oversized down tube is round at the head tube for excellent steering. The down tube gains width as it gets closer to the bottom bracket to combat pedaling forces.
Top Tubes
KirkLee’s top tube is a smaller, reverse image of the down tube with aggressive shaping. At the rear, the top tube is round to accentuate the simplicity of the top tube / seat tube junction. As it nears the head tube, it ovalizes to minimize side to side flex and increase stiffness in the front triangle.
Seat Tubes
The seat tube is round and internally butted to save weight where it is not needed. Due to the carbon wrap build process, the stiffness is added where it matters: the BB shell and top tube interface. A 34.9 front derailleur clamp and a 31.6 mm seat post are used for the custom build.
Bottom Brackets
KirkLee can build just about any bottom bracket to suit your needs. Of course we have our preferences based on stiffness, surface area, material properties and commonality. Below are samples of the more common choices:
- 68mm Titanium (57g)
- 68mm Aluminum (44g)
- BB-30
- BB-90
Custom Laminates
The heart of every KirkLee is unidirectional carbon. We only build with United States sourced pre-preg unidirectional fabric with high fiber to resin content to optimize the qualities of carbon fiber. Each specification of the carbon is carefully chosen to maximize ride quality. The tubes are joined with unidirectional carbon templates that give us the ability to control the fiber direction and thus the ride quality of each custom bicycle. We can add or remove carbon layers depending on rider characteristics. KirkLee custom bikes also have the ability to blend each joint to create a smooth flow between the joints or we can build the bike to simulate a classic lugged look.
Warranty: Lifetime
At KirkLee we don’t mass produce frames. Typically by the end of the build process we know our customers and our customers know us. We like to think that when you own a KirkLee you are part of the family, and should there be a problem we will do everything possible to correct it.
While that can be interpreted rather vaguely, the official warranty is Lifetime warranty to the original owner concerning building and material defects. Unfortunately bikes crash and should something happen to your KirkLee, call us up. We are here for you.
Price: $4,200
A KirkLee Custom carbon bicycle includes a custom geometry carbon frame painted in a single color with single color KirkLee logos, fork (Edge 2.0 or Easton EC-90), seat clamp, and headset (Chris King or Cane Creek 110). Paint or part substitutions quoted upon ordering. A half-down deposit is required before we begin building your KirkLee Custom carbon bicycle.
When you combine all the features above, with the ability to augment all the tube properties with a custom lay-up and selection of standard or extra light tubes, the end result is a bike that is truly unique. We create a light bike that is stiff, responsive, handles as if it’s on rails, and is built for you.
Please contact us if there is anything you would like in a bike that you don’t see here. We like a good challenge to build something unique.
